Heirloom gold and engraved fingerprints come together in a custom wedding ring that honors legacy, love, and craftsmanship.
A fingerprint is one of the most personal marks a person can leave behind. No two are alike, and when engraved into a ring, that pattern becomes a permanent reminder of a one-of-a-kind connection. For Laine and Jordan, their engraved fingerprints became the centerpiece of a custom wedding ring that carries their story in every detail.
The project began with gold from Jordan’s grandfather, who saved a few 14k rings that had been passed down through the family. We melted them down and used that heirloom gold for the inlay, creating a narrow strip that ran through the center of the black titanium band. The gold holds part of his family’s story, reshaped into something new for Jordan to wear every day.
It was the first time we had repurposed a customer’s gold for an inlay like this. Gold behaves differently depending on its purity and age, so getting a clean, flush fit inside the titanium required patience and careful control. The combination of polished gold and matte black titanium gave the ring a strong, simple look that didn’t need extra detail to stand out.
On the outside of the band, we engraved the fingerprints of both Laine and Jordan. Fingerprint engravings are always personal, but this one carried even more meaning. Two unique patterns wrap side by side around the gold inlay, connecting their lives while honoring the generations that came before them.
We kept the engraving subtle, with a black-on-black finish that reveals itself only as light moves across the ring. That choice made the design feel symbolic and understated. Placing the engraving so close to the gold inlay demanded precision, and each pass of the engraving tool had to be carefully aligned to protect the gold's clean edge.
Inside the ring, an engraving reads “God gave me you.” Together, the fingerprint design, the heirloom gold, and the message inside create a full story of faith, family, and connection.
For our team, this project marked two milestones. It was our first time using recycled heirloom gold in a titanium inlay, and our first engraving placed this close to it. Both required steady hands, sharp focus, and the kind of craftsmanship that defines Honest Hands Ring Co.
The finished ring carried their family’s story forward, shaped by the past and marked as their own.
