How a Banff Hike Sparked the Design of a Custom Rose Gold Wedding Ring
Banff National Park is one of those places on earth you can hardly believe is real, making it one of Honest Hands’ customers, Jared’s, and his fiancée Grace’s favorite trips together. While exploring the park’s stunning mountain views, tranquil waters, and sun-soaked meadows, the couple stumbled upon a perfect keepsake. They brought home a rock with two distinct sides, one dark and layered and the other with a light quartz-like texture.
With the wedding day approaching, Jared wanted to give himself and Grace custom rose gold wedding rings that symbolized their love for nature and its unexpected beauty. Jared knew the best way to tell that story was through the stone and the memories it held of their adventure together. When Jared reached out to Honest Hands, we knew we could make this vision a reality.

The rock’s natural contrast set the foundation for the design. One side was deep and earthy, layered in shades of black and gray. The other was bright and quartz-like, almost crystalline under the right light. Jared was drawn to the balance between the two and wanted that sharp contrast to carry through in the rings.
We crushed it by hand and sorted the fragments by tone. The dark material added weight and structure. The white, quartz-like shards brought clarity and lift. White fragments like these are unpredictable. Once sealed in resin, they can lose their brightness, turning translucent or disappearing into the background. This batch didn’t. It held its tone, which brought the whole design to life. The inlay didn’t blur. It had definition. Each piece stood out, creating a balanced and eye-catching pattern.

We cast the bands in 10k rose gold. Its warm hue pulled everything together. The soft gold set off the inlay’s contrast without competing for attention. What started as a single stone, jagged and mismatched, was shaped into two rings that reflected the same thing Jared saw from the start. A union that works not because everything matches but because each part brings something different to the whole.
"They are absolutely amazing!" - Grace
Each ring was shaped from the same material but had its own look. The patterns in the inlay formed naturally, giving each band a subtle variation that made it personal. They weren’t identical, and they didn’t need to be. Together, they told the same story from two perspectives.
The finish was polished carefully to bring out the details and the dynamic texture of the stone. The contrast between the dark and light fragments held up, framed by the soft warmth of the rose gold.
