A Piece of Paradise Crafted to Last

The moments that matter most shape the designs of Honest Hands' custom rings. One customer wanted an anniversary gift to capture a special memory of their journey together. The couple spent their honeymoon on the beaches of Oahu and Kauai, collecting sand as a keepsake from their trip. Instead of letting those small mementos sit in a jar, they envisioned turning them into something permanent.

Honest Hands crafted a custom white gold wave ring with inlays of beach sand from both islands. The design blended the sand into a blue opal inlay, mirroring the way waves meet the shore. This one-of-a-kind piece became a wearable reminder of the places that meant the most to them.

The couple initially considered sterling silver, but after reviewing their options, they chose white gold for its durability and strength. It also allowed for the precise casting required to shape the wave's intricate details.

We used the lost wax casting method to bring the wave design to life. This technique allowed us to achieve clean lines and smooth curves. Once the metal was cast, we extensively polished the ring to remove imperfections.

Next, we carefully set the inlays. Beach sand from Oahu covered one side of the ring, while sand from Kauai covered the other. Instead of creating a sharp division, we blended the two together, incorporating blue opal to symbolize the beaches meeting the ocean waves. This step required skillful craftsmanship to achieve a seamless, natural transition.

After securing the inlays, we applied a protective resin to seal the materials. Sanding and polishing the ring created a smooth, durable finish. The wave design added complexity to this process, requiring extra attention to prevent imperfections in the final coating.

When the customers saw the finished ring, they were thrilled.
